It’s been coming for a while, a little brewing within my heart, a desire and vision of mine that would come to me nearly every time I would mediate. But, the resistance has always lead me to run, the fear too strong and the ability to run in the opposite direction, an old habit that felt safe and secure every time. This safety and security is important to me, it’s allowed me to feel more at peace and calm, instead of my nervous system going into shock whenever I would take a slight step into the unknown.
However, the unknown has been calling me, it has been getting louder, stronger and more consistent over the past month, to the point where I could no longer ignore it. There have been little signs and synchronicities from the Universe that my time is now—time to take the leap from out of the known and secure walls I have built for myself and venture out into the wide open space to the life that I have envisioned for myself.
There are three practices or rituals that have become my non-negotiables, especially in times of heightened anxiety and stress around stepping out of my comfort zone, that I know work for me. I have listed them below in the hope that they too may support you as you navigate your way through change and stepping beyond your walls of comfort. Having these supportive tools enables me to continue to move alongside any resistance felt, instead of sprinting in the opposite direction, back to my comfort zone.
1. Mediation & Breath work: This allows me to create an anchor amongst all the noise in my head telling me all the reasons I shouldn’t create the change that I know my soul has been longing for. It is also a way that I have been able to make a little safe haven for myself, a knowing that all will be okay and I can always come to this place of stillness and breath whenever I need to.
2. Affirmations: When we look at up-leveling ourselves, and following our heart’s desires we are often hit with a ton of limiting beliefs and old stories our ‘mean girl’ likes to remind us of. Through working with my own personal coach I have been reminded of the power of personalised affirmations, statements that create new beliefs that, counter-act those nasty limiting beliefs many of us have grown to take as fact. I have 4 personal affirmations that pertain to different areas of my life i.e. physical health, wealth, mental and emotional health that, I use them daily, first thing in the morning and whenever doubt within myself pops into my mind. These affirmations resonate strongly with me, and when I say them to myself I can feel the energy within my body change from a constricted feeling to one that is more open and expansive.
3. Writing and talking it out: Okay, so I know that’s kind of two-in-one but I couldn’t choose because, for me they are both just as important as each other. Both are forms of expression and communication that serve a supportive purpose depending on what mood I’m feeling in at the time. Some days I find I get more out of talking things out with a loved one or friend, the other days I want to retreat a little more and write out all that floods my mind. So really, I guess you could call this third tool one of Expression, in which ever form that resonates with you, but be sure to try and use both.
These are definitely the top three that I keep coming backing to, that never let me down and always give me the support I need. See these as a platform or foundations and by creating and continually adding to your tool kit along your journey, accumulating more skills and supports that will help you to weather and move through any storm or change that you may face in your life.
