Lately I’ve been playing around with my morning routine, after feeling a shift in my body and what it needs.
You know that feeling when something is calling you to do things a little differently? I’m most definitely a creature of habit and enjoy nothing more than my routines and practices, they may seem boring to some but meditation, tea or a coffee ritual, movement and I can’t forget my green hydration juice in the morning gives me my platform for the day. But sometimes, things begin to feel a little stagnant and your body may not respond in the same way it always has to your preferred routines and rituals.
So what did my morning look like before? After waking up I would make brekkie straight away, without a thought of meditating or asking my body what it needed. My ‘bad’ habits would fill the time, with maybe just browsing the internet, browsing social media and only looking for things to fill the time, not very good for my wellbeing in those doses.
With my new routine in place, I have been called to explore some refining or change and I have to say my body is responding better for changing my morning routine. Meditation and stillness for sometime now have been one of the first practices I do before beginning my day, and this remains. I wake up and stumble to my office where I sit or sometimes lay…if I’m still waking up and listen to a guided mediation or simply concentrate on my breath and the sensations in my body. After 10-30 minutes of stillness I retreat to the kitchen to make my super duper green hydration juice, thanks to the Medical Medium for inspiring me (see link to book here). This amazing juice has been so cleansing and calming on my digestive system and has helped clear up my skin, what a bonus!
If I’m working in my “other” job, I will hop in the shower whilst oil pulling, followed by tongue scraping, which is great for removing built up bacteria and nasty’s from the night before, it’s also super great for your digestion. If I’m working from home that day, I like to do movement in the morning, this is either a yoga, gym session or a Pilates class, I then come home make a hot cup of something and sit down, journal and set my intentions for my workday.
Lately my body has been asking me to eat a little later in the morning, it doesn’t feel super hungry upon waking and so I’ve been eating an hour or sometimes 2-3 hours after rising. This was frowned upon when I was in the midst of my hypothalamic amenorrhea journey however, now that my body and hormones are more balanced I feel it’s ‘safe’ to listen to my intuition more closely, knowing that my body will not wrong me or want to jeopardize my health in any way.
And just like that, this shows are bodies aren’t stagnant, just like the seasons and our womanly cycles there is flow and fluidity in all areas of our life, whether we are conscious of it or not. The more present we are with ourselves, the more we open we become to ‘the flow’ that resides within, perhaps that flow will last a day, a week, a month or a year, but to know that when it’s time for change, growth and a ‘new way’, it is safe to continue on flowing however that may look for you.
It’s great that we have these rituals and routines that no doubt set us up for the day ahead and create a more grounded and focused energy within. However, if you feel called to change it up, try something a little different, embrace it and know that this is all part of listening to your inner guide, your intuition and flowing with what feels ‘right’ for you in that moment.
“The more we flow the more we surrender, the more we surrender and trust, the stronger our connection to our intuition will become.” ~ SJP
