Ah the journey of the menstrual cycle, or the regaining of it, in my case. I’m currently studying a course on hormonal health and diving deeper into the Endocrine System, our hormones and their roles the play in our body. It’s fascinating how for us women to live with good health and have a regular menstrual cycle all these hormones and glands are required to dance in harmony with one-another, talking and feeding back various signals and messages to each other. This dance has prompted me to realize that; the flow of energy that exists in all of us both women and men is of great assistance in helping our body and mind to live a vital, healthy life.
As Belinda Davidson says, “If your energy field is happy, your life is happy.”
We know from many philosophies such as Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda and Yoga that our life force chi, which runs through our body needs to be free flowing in order for each part of our body and life to function at its best.
So, when looking at my own hormonal health journey to date there have been a vast array of hormones that haven’t been in balance and happily dancing to the flow and rhythm of a vital body and hence, there has been an energy stagnation, especially in my Sacral Chakra—an area in our body that governs our lower abdomen, reproductive system, large intestine, kidney and bladder. The energy of this chakra is to be freely expressive through creativity, sexuality; it’s also flexible and uninhibited. There is a real sense of finding what we want and breaking away from what others perceive us to be and do—moving into a place and energy of exploration, enjoying what brings us pleasure and magnetizing what we desire and want in life. It’s all about owning our truth, gifts and our amazing uniqueness that is who YOU are! All of which have been a challenge for me over the years, my confidence was low, my ability to go out and try things of interest that bring me joy were shut away because, I was fearful of what those around me, closest to me, would think.
Not only, did my troubles with Hypothalamic Amenorrohea force me to obviously face my current hormonal health problems, along with my diet and exercise, it prompted me to go within and look to my emotional and spiritual wellbeing and my energy fields. This may sound a little woo-woo to you and believe me it did to me in the beginning as well. However, the more I tried to ignore it the more it would call to me—popping up unexpectedly whilst reading books or looking at social media. The signs were there, I just had to let go and embrace every area of my being and its current state of health. I know I’m not alone when I say it’s easier to just look outwardly, to look to our food and movement and change that. Which, are super important for our health and healing, but, looking within and doing the ‘inside’ work, the mental and emotional work are key and probably the most challenging. However, like the dance between each of our hormones, in order for us to feel and be at our best, there also needs to be a dance between the inner and outer elements of our health and wellness.
The more I have gone within (it takes time and dedication) and focused on my own energy field—asked myself questions that call for me to be truly honest with myself, the more I feel I am being guided by my body and my intuition, building strength each time to move beyond the fear and worry of what others think and what may or may not be. The awareness I have built within myself is incredible, it’s cumulative, it’s intentional and it brings with it a dedication to self.
It’s a matter of beginning with where we are at, focusing on what is brining us the most pain (not necessarily in the physical sense)—feeling it and moving forward from there. When we say YES, to living a more vital and healthy life, we are saying YES to ourselves, we are empowering ourselves to commence a journey that will dance between the highs and the lows, the breakthroughs and the heartbreaks. But, each time we grow stronger, more empowered, aware and grounded in how we want to feel, whom we are and what we came here to do and share.
“The beauty of the journey is not the perceived ending, but rather the mystical awakenings and ever surprising twists and turns that create an ever-lasting abundance of inner power, purpose and truth.” #wordsbyme
P.S - I would love to hear from you…have you experienced and learnt things about yourself along your journey thus far that you never would have dreamed of? How has it changed, challenged and inspired you to keep moving forward? Remember, we are all in this together, and what one-person shares may very well help others on their own journey.
